Located between Stamford Brook and Ravenscourt Park, Black Lion Lane is located in the St Peter’s Square Conservation Area, designated in 1971.  The existing 2 bedroom house had many architectural features of merit to the main facade, incised stucco render at ground floor with stock brickwork over and a valley or sometimes known as a butterfly roof over.  The large timber sash windows also have an arched soldier course in contrasting red brick.  The proposals sought to remove some of the more recent additions to the rear of the property and form a new rear extension with terrace over as well as completely refurbish the interior of the property.   The plan was to remove all internal walls at ground floor with complete open plan living.  A continuous limestone bench would span some 25m from the front wall of the reception area, through living, kitchen and dining rooms and continue through the garden to provide a bespoke barbecue and seating area.  The main staircase was removed to provide a sting focal point through the entire building.  Completely bespoke, the staircase had to be carefully considered as each tread was completely unique.  Large glass roof lights over the top of stairwell allow pools of light to flood through each floor plate.  The stairs were clad in oak and stained with a dark matt oil finish.  At the first floor, a new bedroom was created over the ground floor extension, utility space provided and guest bedroom with en-suite.  The second floor contained the master bedroom with en-suite and roof terrace.   An exemplary refurbishment and extension of the existing 2 bedroom house has been transformed into a modern contemporary 3 bedroom house.  The careful attention to detail, in particular, the beautiful staircase rising through the house has delivered an exceptional project.  One that the client was extremely pleased with and we continue to work on current and future projects with.
