Another Victorian Terrace rear extension… not so, we say! Each project presents a new opportunity to provide a unique development that suits the style, appearance of the building and also the clients personal tastes. This large Victorian Terrace house is in a prime location, easy access to Wandsworth Common and a short distance to the popular Bars and Restaurants along Northcote Road. The existing house already had a loft conversion carried out, maximising the sleeping accommodation but the kitchen, dining and living areas did not reflect the number of potential occupants. The kitchen area was too small, limited storage space and poor circulation. We identified the clients requirements and designed the layout to provide a spacious family kitchen with dining, new WC and storage facilities. The existing boiler and tank were relocated to the renovated basement which also formed part of the works. By taking these elements from the existing layout it provides much more storage for the Kitchen. An infill extension was proposed to the side and a small extension to the rear so as not to compromise the garden space. We have been desperate to use Crittal on a project and the client did not disappoint in making what is ultimately an expensive decision. We could have added bi-fold doors but we feel bi-folds are a bit dated now. Having steel windows and doors provide much smaller sight lines with the frames and having black frames against a stock brick works really well as a finish. A large roof light set back towards the facade of the original house allows light back in to the snug/family area and provides a wash of light into the dining area of the kitchen. A new WC was also included and the sink was recessed into the original wall to allow for a downlighter directly over the washbasin. The client had an early indication on what type of kitchen they required an we were able to incorporate the kitchen elements in to the design by building stud walls around the pantry and fridge. The kitchen was designed, supplied and fitted by Roundhouse Design.
A very strong contrasting black kitchen and refurbishing the stair case and hall panelling in Farrow and Ball Railings, offsets from the white crisp walls and white washed herringbone engineered flooring, to provide a contemporary yet timeless finish. We even went on to provide the client with a garden design by adding a floating bench, raised rendered planters with uplighting, recommended planting and a water feature. By adding a rear extension and refurbishing the rest of the ground floor the finished project now provides a stylish contemporary family home in Wandsworth. The client has expressed their delight with the finish and continues to recommended us to family and friends for future projects.
